Various National newspapers are running stories that Mikel Arteta could return to the bench against Birmingham in the FA Cup today. For me this is quite hard to believe after reading the official site, with David Moyes saying Leon is back but Arteta is close so maybe in the next few weeks. However there are many factors that would point to Arteta’s inclusion on the bench:
- The pre-match warm up would be used as an additional training session, to increase fitness for any imminent return.
- The fans would have a chance to see our superstar in something other than a finely tailored suit and coat.
- The whole atmosphere of the game would be improved with the announcement of Arteta’s name on the team sheet.
- The fact that 7 subs can be named, and invariably this season at least 3 have been teenagers with no chance of getting on, so why not have Arteta with no change of getting on?
