So Michael Owen surprised everyone and signed for English Champions Manchester United this week. Despite reported interest from other clubs notably Everton and Aston Villa the boyhood Blue and former Liverpool ace trumped for the club every fan in the Liverpool area hates as much as their nearest neighbour.
David Moyes reportedly flew Owen out to America to discuss the workings of his contract over a games of golf in the past fortnight, with close pals of the striker saying that had chosen Everton over Villa and others, then Sir Alex Ferguson made an 11th hour bid to take the former England star to Old Trafford. And a former England star his is likely to remain.
By moving to Old Trafford to warm the bench for large parts of the season Michael Owen may well have ended his South Africa 2010 dream before its begun. Everyone knows that Owen needs an extended run in a settled team to get the best out of him, is this likely to happen at United where even Carlos Tevez could not get a regular game, and also Berbatov?
Owens best move would have been to either Everton or Villa that’s for sure. At either one of these clubs he would have had time to settle, adjust at get back to what he does best, score goals. At Old Trafford he may well spend large parts of the season trying to make an impact from the bench, is this what a striker needs in his final World Cup year? I for one think he may have blown it, and I feel sorry for him because he has no-one else to blame.

You feel sorry for him??? Why? The bloke is a deluded penny pinching idiot!
He said he’d find it hard to sign for us (everton) because of his connection with the RS, yet he smugly signs for the mancs! Surely that’s ten times WORSE!
Can’t wait till he comes to Goodison….. I’m sure he get a ‘great’ reception!! When I say great, I say that in Saddam Hussains definition of ‘great’!!!!!
owen as always put money before loyalty, he will stoop to the lowest depths to fill his already bloated bank accounts, i can’t wait for fergie to sign two top class strikers and watch owen squirming on the bench hoping to play the last 10 minutes of the game
