No – this isn’t a tabloid story about Joey Yobo being caught in a nightclub, the worse for wear, having taken up GoGo dancing as a new pastime.
Reports are rife at the moment that Joseph Yobo is unhappy playing second fiddle to the highly successful Lescott and Jagielka central defensive pairing at Everton and he also feels unhappy with his present weekly wage.
Of course, there has been no quote to back this rumour up from the player because it is virtually guaranteed to be untrue. Maybe Yobo is due a wage increase as he is 4 years into his current 5 years deal? That I could understand – even though the weekly £45K which our highest earners are around and about is just ridiculous money in the context of the real world and the fans’ struggles to make ends meet and still get to the match. Still… that is modern football, and at least Everton tries to keep the wages sensible when compared to other Premier League clubs.
But there is a counter-rumour that our Joey is about to sign a new 5 year deal, which would mean he stays on the books well into his 30s and this is by far the more likely scenario in my opinion. He doesn’t seem the type to sulk about being left on the bench after recovering from injury and now he gets to play in the biggest match Everton have had in 14 years – so to the lazy journalists trying to make a mountain out of a molehill – find another fish to fry – there’ll be No Go For Yobo.
