There is news coming through that Steven Pienaar has quit international football. The South Africa captain told the South African FA of his decision by letter which was later read out in a press conference.

Pienaar stated that it was “with regret” that after 10 years on the international scene that it had begun to take a toll on his body. Gorden Igesung, national team coach, asked the SA fans to respect Pienaar’s decisions simply stating that Steven had “given us 10 years of service and his body is┬átired”.

This can only be good news for the Blues, hopefully extending Pienaar’s career by cutting down on the pan-continental travel.
