So here we are heading into match five of eight in the month of January. We currently stand at two wins and two draws and we will be looking to take our new found defensive maturity into a game that should be winnable.
Expect Tim Howard to keep his place after his performance against City in midweek. The back four will almost certainly remain the same too, with Stones again deputising at right back.
In midfield is where is gets interesting. Gerard Deulefeu has looked jaded in recent games, and I doubt Osman will be starting two games in a week. Tom Cleverley remains doubtful whilst James McCarthey definitely misses out again. Barry and Besic are a cert, along with Ross Barkley. The two wide places may goto Pienaar and Lennon, who both offer an attacking threat whilst also offering some defensive awareness.
Chelsea are to be without Eden Hazard who either has a groin problem or is in Spain negotiating the terms of a transfer to Madrid.
Apart from that they have a full squad to pick from.
Roberto Martinez: “Chelsea are a team full of winning footballers. They won the league so the quality is there. They have players that can produce magic.
“They have had a couple of very impressive performances under Guus Hiddink, and have shown plenty of fight.”
Like I said above we should see this game as eminently winnable and should not be scared of attacking this Chelsea side. Another draw would be a decent result though as London has been historically a difficult place for us to pick up points.
