Despite our first team goalkeeper, Tim Howard, being sidelined through injury, Roberto Martinez has confirmed he will not sign a new goalkeeper this January. He has decided he will use his second choice goalkeeper, Joel Robles instead of buying a new keeper.
Robles has played 12 games in goal for Everton since joining from Athletico Madrid in the summer of 2013 but has failed to make an impression on the Everton faithful and the manager.
Martinez believes Robles’ confidence will come in time and he will reach the potential he set at Wigan last season. He featured in the FA Cup Final for Wigan in the 1-0 win when they lifted the cup in the 2012/13 season. He was very good in that game which inspired Martinez to sign him from Athletico Madrid. Martinez said:
“He is coping with a lot of professionalism and we haven’t seen his full potential yet,”
Rumours suggested Everton were going to sign current Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al-habsi but they were no more than rumours. Other Rumours include David Marshall from Cardiff City but once again they may have only been rumours
We would like to hear what you think about Martinez’ decision to not sign a new keeper. Leave a comment below.
